A comparative assessment of the accuracy of electronic apex locator (Root ZX) in the presence of commonly used irrigating solutions

2013

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of Root ZX in determining working length in presence of normal saline, 0.2% chlorhexidine and 2.5% of sodium hypochlorite. Material and Methods: Sixty extracted, single rooted, single canal human teeth were used. Teeth were decoronated at CEJ and actual canal length determined. Then working length measurements were obtained with Root ZX in presence of normal saline 0.9%, 0.2% chlorhexidine and 2.5% NaOCl. The working length obtained with Root ZX were compared with actual canal length and subjected to statistical analysis. Results: No statistical significant difference was found between actual canal length and Root ZX measurements in pres…

A smart rotary technique versus conventional pulpectomy for primary teeth: A randomized controlled clinical study.

2017

Background Techniques with adequate accuracy of working length determination along with shorter duration of treatment in pulpectomy procedure seems to be essential in pediatric dentistry. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the accuracy of root canal length measurement with Root ZX II apex locator and rotary system in pulpectomy of primary teeth. Material and methods In this randomized control clinical trial complete pulpectomy was performed on 80 mandibular primary molars in 80, 4-6-year-old children. The study population was randomly divided into case and control groups. In control group conventional pulpectomy was performed and in the case group working length was determined by …

The accuracy of the Raypex5 electronic apex locator using stainless-steel hand K-file versus nickel-titanium rotary Mtwo file

2009

Objectives: Today many clinicians use both stainless-steel hand K-files and nickel- titanium rotary files during endodontic treatment. It is of great importance for the clinician to have confidence in the accuracy of an apex locator even if these files were used interchangeably. The purpose of this in-vitro study was to evaluate the accuracy of the Raypex5 electronic apex locator using stainless-steel hand K-file versus nickel-titanium rotary Mtwo file. Study design: Twenty straight and single canals of maxillary central teeth were used. Access cavities were prepared; actual working length were determined and compared with electronic working length obtained by means of apex locator Raypex5 …

In Vitro Evaluation of the Accuracy of the Root Zx in the Presence of Naocl 2.5% and Chlorhexidine 0.2%

2018

Background Establishing the working length at the apical constriction is considered ideal for root canal therapy. Because of the limitations of radiography and complicacy of the apex of the root, electronic measurement of canal length has become valuable for endodontic treatment. This study was designed to evaluation of the accuracy of the Root zx electronic apex locator in the presence of NaOCl 2.5% and chlorhexidine 0.2%. Material and Methods Thirty extracted human premolars with complete root formation were enrolled. The actual length (AL) was assessed visually (under stereo microscope) and teeth mounted in the saline model. The electronic length (EL) measurements were recorded in the pr…

Effect of electric currents on antibacterial effect of chlorhexidine against Entrococcus faecalis biofilm : An in vitro study

2018

Background This in vitro study was mainly aimed to evaluate the effect of high-frequency alternating currents (AC) applied by an electronic apex locator (EAL) on the antibacterial properties of chlorhexidine (CHX) on E. faecalis biofilm. Material and Methods The root canals of 120 extracted human single-rooted teeth were prepared using Gates-Glidden drills and hand K-files. After contaminating the root canals with E. faecalis, they were incubated for 60 days. Then, the teeth were randomly divided into six experimental groups (n=20). Group 1, 2% CHX; group 2, normal saline (NS) with direct current (DC); group 3, normal saline (NS) with high-frequency alternating current (AC); group 4, 2% CHX…

Use of contemporary technologies and new materials in undergraduate Endodontics teaching.

2021

Background: This study aims to analyze the use of contemporary technologies and materials in undergraduate endodontic teaching in Spain. Material and Methods: The survey was sent to the undergraduate endodontic programme leads in the 23 Spanish dental schools. The survey asked about the use of magnification, ultrasonic devices, electronic apex locator, rotary instruments, root-filling techniques, and bioceramic cements in the teaching of endodontics. Results: The response rate was 91%, and the final number of schools included in the study was twenty. Only two schools (10%) used magnification (loupes or operative microscope). Five schools (25%) used ultrasonic devices to prepare the access c…
